Matted and Framed

Two bighorn rams meet in midair, horns lowered in a timeless display of strength and competition—but with an unexpected twist. Their coats carry the brilliant greens, fiery oranges and distinctive blue-haloed spots of a brook trout, bringing together two inhabitants of the wild mountain landscape in one imaginative form.

Expressive linework, vivid color and fluid washes capture the movement and intensity of the encounter, while the trout-inspired patterns blur the boundary between mountain and stream. This mixed media piece celebrates the interconnectedness of the Western wild with a playful departure from reality.
